Bodega Skateboards

Summary

With the use of sequenced, high-definition photographs, a skateboard company gets a 30 second spot that is somewhere between 2D and 3D reality.

The Situation

Bodega skateboard company was looking for a way to stand out in a field filled with strong competition. They wanted to create a campaign that built off of the founders' New York history and success in the skateboard world. Our mission was clear - produce something 'cool but not overdone.'

Our Approach

We applied a hybrid photography-film technique working with photographer Charlie Samuels. By using many high-definition photographs in a stop-motion style, we are able to manipulate the viewers' eye - seemingly static images reveal subtle movement and textured depth of field -- photographs appear as if they are film. We are very excited about our work in this style. Look for more as we continue its development.

Results

Incorporating about 150 high resolution stills and careful construction of each frame, the commercial tells the story of a skater who 'connects' with the Bodega brand.

The art directors really nailed this one. The piece is distinctly urban - situated in Times Square, that's hard to avoid - yet has an other-worldy feel to it that tells the viewer that this company is something different.
